Robert Herjavec was born on September 14, 1962 in Varaždin, SFR Yugoslavia (now Croatia), to Vladimir and Katica Herjavec.
He has a brother named Tomislav and a sister named Zdenka.

In 1970, when he was eight years old, his family fled the communist regime and immigrated to Canada with only one suitcase and $20.
