Johnny Ruffo was born on March 8, 1988, in Balcatta, a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, Australia. He was the son of Jill and Pascoe Ruffo, who separated when he was three years old. He grew up with his mother in a small unit and had a passion for music since he was 12 years old. He taught himself how to play guitar and piano, and wrote his first song at the age of 14.
He was inspired by his idol, Michael Jackson, and also enjoyed surfing, snowboarding, skating, mountain climbing, and scuba diving.
